It’s All About That Candlelight Glow

It’s All About That Candlelight Glow

For many of you, it doesn’t get much better than a cosy evening on the sofa after a hard day’s work, scented candles dancing around you as you curl under a blanket and wind down. There’s a kind of therapy surrounding scented candles, the effect of which is undeniable, especially at this time of year. We swear it’s getting colder as we write this!

But what makes a candle so therapeutic? If you read our latest blog (find it here) then you’ll know all about the mental health benefits of scent, and the principal is the same when it comes to candles. The concept of a candle has a long history, longer than you may think, and there are many benefits and uses to lighting that flickering flame

Early civilisations used to fashion a type of wicked candle made from animals and plants, and across the centuries candles have been used as part of religion, in remembrance, to light homes and even to aid travellers who had lost their way. It could be argued that our love for a flame comes from our deep-rooted ancestral memories. At one point in time the warmth of a fire was all we had, after all

Candles create ambiance within our homes, or even outdoors on a summer’s evening. If they are infused with particular scents, they can be beneficial to the mind and have a calming effect. Just like scent, they can stimulate your brain to produce memories and improve your mood. There’s even been some research into the effects of candles on a restful night’s sleep. This is all sounding rather great isn’t it!

So, with all that in mind, we’ve rounded up 5 of our favourites for the chilly months ahead. They’re the kind of candles that’ll make you go ‘ooo, that’s lovely’ after a good sniff, before going in for another one. And they’re the kind of candles you can’t wait to light, but when you do you worry you’re burning it too quickly, but it’s just so good and you can’t help it…You all know what we’re saying ;)
