Level Up Your Perfume Game with Fragrance Enhancers
Last month we wrote a blog all about how to layer fragrance like a pro (find it here). Our guide on discovering the joys of combining fragrances was to help you explore new realms in perfume, but there is an extra step you can take which we believe is like a hidden level on a video game or the secret ingredient to smelling oh so exceptional
Fragrance enhancers are really quite magical compositions, the idea of which strays from your traditional eau de parfum to open up entire worlds of possibility when it comes to scent and how you wear it
We’re sure you can guess by the name that fragrance enhancers, well, enhance! They’re different from the perfumes you already know and love because they’re specifically designed to be combined with other scents, rather than stand on their own
They’re often pared back versions of your typical fragrance structure too.
They can be a blend of a few notes or sometimes even just one on its own. These concoctions are minimalist, but they can make a huge difference to your experience of a scent in ways you’ve perhaps never imagined
Think of fragrance enhancers like a ‘booster’ of what you’ve already got. They’re designed to complement and blend seamlessly with the scents they sit on, but at the same time they take your perfume to another level. Who doesn’t want to feel that secret satisfaction when someone else gets a whiff of what you’re wearing and has to ask what it is?
Because that’s what this is all about at the end of the day, individuality. If someone can tell you which perfume you’re wearing, it instantly removes some of the shine you feel when you smell good. Instead, you want to be able to name a layered combination or niche fragrance that’s not readily available, therefore asserting your uniqueness and proving yourself the fragrance connoisseur you know you are
After all, smell is such a powerful tool for provoking memories or emotions, it’s entirely understandable you’d want to hold on to your own customised secrets for as long as possible. Using fragrance enhancers means you can take your beloved scents and turn them into something truly unique to you
Here at e-scents we have a few options for you to venture down this road with. All add an almost indescribable quality to other perfumes, or if you wanted to wear them standalone, they will blend with your natural scent to create what can only be described as your own fragrance fingerprint
D.S. & DURGA’s I Don’t Know What has a sort of transparent radiance to it, thanks to its hints of amber and sandalwood notes combined with the freshness of bergamot essence. Built to layer and enhance everything else it touches, I Don’t Know What is described by the brand as like a building with only structure – no interior, and gives any perfume a certain, as the French say, “I don’t know what”
The brand’s other offering for fragrance enhancers is Crystal Pistil, and as told by perfumer David Moltz, “I wanted to make a soft crystalline perfume that highlighted the humid parts inside of a flower.” And made it he did. There’s a dampness to this one, and the freshness of just trimmed stems. Needless to say this adds some serious boost to other scents, but most particularly to those elegant floral scents you wish lasted longer
Taking a trip to Barcelona now, we’d like to throw Genetic Bliss by 27 87 Perfumes into the mix. A molecular perfume, it could be argued this doesn’t quite qualify as a fragrance enhancer as it’s primarily designed to be worn alone. However, this allows it to adapt to your body’s unique natural scent and form a fragrance entirely your own, which is what we’re going for here
And last but not least, you need to check out Iso Gamma Super by Ellis Brooklyn. Designed for fragrance minimalists and for those looking to customise their fragrance collection, this enhancer was created using green chemistry to produce a unique synthetic cedarwood meets ambergris note which is allergen free. It produces a captivating quality when sprayed directly on your skin, but the real magic happens when you pair it with other scents
So go, float off into the olfactory world of fragrance enhancers and see what uniqueness you can create
